Codes & Conventions of a School Magazine

We reviewed other school magazines as part of our planning before creating ours to give us ideas on what they should include and look like. Here are the codes and conventions that I found:
Codes & Conventions
·         Typically you would expect conventionally ‘pretty’ models on the front cover.
·         You’d expect the front cover to have relevant information and stories on it for the age group that is being targeted.
·         Up-to-date information would be expected as we wouldn’t want to know about something that happened many, many years ago.
·         A clear layout would be expected with a big title, large image and relevant colour scheme.
·         The image used to be relevant to the subject of the magazine titles.
·         Language used to be formal yet humorous for an audience of college students.
·         Colour scheme tying in somehow with the college or magazine’s main subject.
·         A front page not crammed with text so the reader won’t be overwhelmed.
·         Good quality images that aren’t pixelated or blurry which would make the magazine seem amateur.
·         Expect an inspirational, informative and motivational magazine.
In my next blog will be the audience questionnaire I sent out, from which I gained feedback which I then acted upon.
